Study: Bank of England Falls Victim As Email Scams Rise ‘By 400 Per Cent’

Phishing scams, often originating in Russia or west Africa, have recently plagued a number of high street banks, including Lloyds TSB, Halifax and NatWest. A campaign that targeted Visa credit card holders was said to have fooled one in 20 (5%) victims into divulging their personal details, including their card and pin numbers, which were then used to impersonate the victim when dealing with online banks and retailers.
